The VEC are honoured to have been asked to speak as expert witnesses at the Federal government’s review of the Temporary Foreign Worker’s Program. The invitation is recognition of the work the VEC has undertaken on this issue for several years.

Until recently, much of the attention has been focused on migrant workers who work in the fields of agriculture, construction, and hospitality. Today, the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) and Motion Picture Company (MPC) will present their views on another segment of the economy – how this program affects the highly skilled, knowledge-based economy in Vancouver, and in other cities across Canada.

The VEC has been invited to present to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development on how the changes to the TFW program have impacted the labour and talent needs of some of our fastest-growing sectors, which depend on high-skilled talent to grow their businesses and to continue to compete on a global stage.
