Is a permit required for delivery of construction material in the downtown core before or during the Olympics? If so, where can I find the application?

Here is the link to the information on our Host City website, and the relevant copy below with a link to the street use application. We will be carefully managing construction in the downtown during the Games period, especially between February 4 and March 1, 2010. http://olympichostcity.vancouver.ca/services/businessresources/streetuseinfo.htm Download and complete the 2010 Street Use Request Form ( PDF 76KB) for activities including: • construction staging • moving • other curb-side requests As usual, potential limitations to specific site street use will be assessed in response to individual development applications and communicated through the Street Occupancy permitting process. Please note that throughout Downtown Vancouver, dedicated on-street parking and loading spaces for specific groups or companies will not be approved, but shared loading/passenger spaces will be established where opportunities exist. Businesses and stakeholders not sure which City department you should contact, or if you have general questions about street use during the 2010 Winter Games period, please contact Engineering Development Services 2010requests@vancouver.ca or 604.871.6730.

When will it no longer be advisable to hold conferences in Vancouver because of the 2010 games?

Starting in the middle of September 2009, portions of the Vancouver Convention Centre will become off-limits and will increase through to December 2009 until large conventions are put on hold until after the Games. For hotel sized conventions, it is different depending on the hotel - 100 to 350 person conferences/conventions could be held in the city through January without too much difficulty but these will need to book be earlier than usual.

Will there be pedestrian corridors during the Games?
A.:

In Vancouver road space will be reallocated to create pedestrian corridors from noon to midnight during the Games. These corridors will make it fun, safe and easy to walk around Downtown Vancouver and celebrate the Games on public streets. There will be 32 blocks of pedestrian corridors, including:

  • Granville Street from Helmcken to West Hastings Street
  • Robson Street from Beatty to Jervis Streets
  • Hamilton Street from Drake to Georgia Streets
  • Beatty Street from Smithe to Dunsmuir Streets

(See Map - PDF) Visit the Walking section of the Host City Website for more information.
