How the Program Works
Over seven weeks (May 3 – June 19), participating businesses will craft their impact business model and put strategies into action within a collaborative and supportive cohort. The course is comprised of an introductory social and orientation, followed by six modules that together build a strategic impact plan for your business. The course is facilitated by one of the region’s foremost experts on impact planning for businesses – Kristy O’Leary, Director of Impact at Cove Continuity Advisors – and powered by BDC and the Vancouver Economic Commission. The course is organized to correspond to the B Corp Impact Assessment, which will be the basis of building an impact framework and evaluating participants’ existing and potential impacts. Please note that only ten businesses will be accepted into this cohort.
Each module is designed to lead participants through a planning exercise to build an impact strategy that spans all aspects of your business.
Introduction & Orientation

Outcome: Knowledge of tools available to support ongoing impact assessment and measurement; an expanded business community

Clearly define your company values, vision and mission, and learn how good governance can make your company a leader.
Outcome: Defined mission; engaged governance driven by principles of transparency, accountability, and shared values

Environmental Footprint | Impact, everywhere
Environmental responsibility is a necessity as well as a competitive advantage in today’s economy. Understand your company’s environmental footprint, how to reduce it, and reap cost savings, marketing potential, and community benefits from your environmental impact strategy
Outcome: Environmental impact measurement and strategy to reduce footprint

Supply Chain & Traceability | Your Impact Playground
Explore ethical supply chain management, sustainable procurement and smart sourcing – and the differences between each of them
Outcome: Mitigate risk and increase positive impact by increased resilience in your supply chain

Workers: Human Resources & Employees | Purpose, not a paycheque

Community Impact: Near and Far | Change You Can See
Build a branded community impact strategy and learn how your brand can make your social impact efforts stick while helping to drive business performance
Outcome: A ‘circular’ community impact strategy that drives bottom line results

Communicating Impact: Share Great Stories
Identify key messages (strengths, weaknesses, performance, targets, leverage areas, etc.) in your impact plan and build compelling narratives that speak to diverse stakeholders and support your business goals
Outcome: Effective impact communication to internal and external stakeholders, and a cumulative map of steps forward on your impact journey
