Approximately 55 businesses in downtown Vancouver were impacted and experienced damages during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot. Many of these are small businesses, some of which are struggling to cover insurance premiums or other restoration costs. This fund is being established to provide financial support to impacted businesses and ensure they remain healthy and viable.

Summary
Approximately 55 businesses in downtown Vancouver were impacted and experienced damages during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot. This fund is being established to provide financial support to impacted businesses and ensure they remain healthy and viable.

Potential grants to impacted businesses
  • up to $7,000 in restoration assistance for businesses in downtown Vancouver that were directly impacted by damages (not covered by insurance) during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot
  • application process to VEDC
  • grants will cover costs to infrastructure, physical space including damages to:
    • windows
    • doors
    • furniture, fixtures and equipment
    • other fixed infrastructure related to the operation of the business
  • fund will not cover:
    • any damages already covered by insurance (must provide written statement)
    • stolen goods and products (though special considerations may be made)
    • loss of income or sales
       
Contributions
  • 100% of donated funds will be distributed to impacted businesses
  • Charitable receipts will be provided to major donors
  • Donations can be made to VEDC
  • Fund target is $150,000
